It’s New Years again and like most we want to set goals for ourselves to have a better year. Most want to lose weight, get healthier, and or learn a self defense. I hope to help a number of people reach their goals this year.
One of the biggest reasons people don’t reach their fitness goals is they get bored. The same old class, the same old exercises everything is the same. Well imagine a gym where the instructor designs the classes himself. He changes the workouts so as to challenge the customers each class.
Imagine a gym where the owner has designed memberships so that everyone can afford it. You no longer have to imagine, Shaddock MMA Fitness is a real gym. If you are nervous know that you will get a FREE 30 minute session so you can learn the equipment and feel comfortable in the class.
My goal for 2018 is to get Sykesville/Eldersburg fit, one person at a time. I hope you will help me reach my goal, by me helping you, reach your goals. I look forward to seeing you in 2018.

This weekend I achieved one of the many goals on my bucket list. Seems silly but one of the goals was to run the stairs that Rocky did in the movie. I have been fortunate enough to achieve a lot of what I set out to do. Four years ago I flew across to Latvia in Europe and was one of only 10 or so Americans to fight in the Team fighting championships. Even though I was 46 at the time, I was getting up every morning at 4 am running and training. I had set an impossible goal and did it, and you can too.
This past year has been a rough one. Not only did my Mom pass away, and soon afterward, my father in law passed as well. As devastating as this was, in reflection it taught me to never stop dreaming. what I am saying to you is life is short, follow your dreams as you don’t know what day will be your last. Keeping yourself fit should be a priority for you. We all tend to prioritize everything else but our health and well being but that is the first thing you should focus on.
I have a goal for my business that I hope you can help me with. I am looking to make Carroll County fit one person at a time. Now I have a small martial arts studio, and compared to most fitness centers even smaller but the goal is to get Sykesville/Eldersburg on a fitness program. I hope to have 100 members by 2019, a lofty but attainable one. We are a small gym but we make up for it in customer service, creativity and a fun atmosphere.
This trip has recently inspired me to set some more outrageous personal goals for myself (don’t tell my wife). I hope training with others is something I can be doing for the rest of my life. Won’t you join me at my gym here in Sykesville/Eldersburg MD. I think you will be glad you did. Go to Shaddockmma.com and fill out the contact form. I will call you myself and set up an appointment to meet and see if we can help you reach your goals.
In an age of magic phones that seem to do everything for us, Amongst other things entertain us constantly, there is a lack in human interaction. With self driving cars, online shopping, and on demand movies it’s a wonder people will ever leave their homes in the future. Shaddock MMA Fitness has got a way to get you and your family to actively interact again.
One of the biggest concerns today is the fitness of America. We get fatter and fatter every year. The addition of new technology has not helped. A new trend at my gym has been families that are doing group training. Whether they show up for a class or have a private session it’s been nice to see families interacting in the gym. I have no electronic devices or high tech sound system ( i’m stuck in 70’s and 80’s Rock and Roll) . We have old fashioned sweat and tears mixed with weights and boxing leather. It’s great to see different generations training together on the same equipment and enjoying it. Your family will learn fitness and basic self defense, a necessity in this day and age.
So when you want to think of something different for the family to do, contact me at shaddockmma.com. They do say “A family that trains together stays together.” Contact me for a free 30 minute fitness session and equipment orientation with the family. You’ll be glad you did.
For those who don’t already know, I am the owner of Shaddock MMA Fitness in Sykesville, MD. We have the best boxing fitness program in Carroll County Maryland.
Even though this is the case, as an owner I did notice that people have been hesitating to move forward and join my gym. I have gone out of my way to design memberships that will overcome any obstacle that could keep someone from joining. If you are considering joining but have concerns read on.
TOO MUCH MONEY–Money is usually the biggest obstacle that people come up with for the reason they can’t join. We have added new memberships that will fit everyone’s budget. Our most economical membership cost as little at $1.20 per day.
I DON’T WANT TO COMMIT TO A YEAR OR TWO- Most people are upset about doing long term commitments at fitness centers. A lot of times they commit for a short time and then get billed even though they no longer use the gym. At Shaddock MMA the longest commitment is 3 months.
COMPETITION- In the area you will not find a more experienced boxing fitness instructor than myself. I was a two time VT State Golden Gloves finalist and the New England Diamond Belt boxing champion. I have been teaching boxing fitness for 30 years. As a USA certified boxing coach I have trained and cornered many boxing and MMA fighters. I was involved in the fitness industry for most of my life. I am an NAHF certified personal trainer.
If you want to train at a boxing gym with a trainer who knows boxing look no further than Shaddock MMA Fitness. Come in and try a FREE 30 minute session with me. I will show you the basics and how to hit the bags so you feel more comfortable in your first class. Go to shaddockmma.com and fill out the contact form and I will set up an appointment with you.
To be clear Shaddock MMA Fitness is not your traditional Mixed Martial Arts studio. Although we used to train guys to fight in the cage, that is no longer the case. What we do is teach conditioning through functional MMA training. You can learn the basics of MMA without taking any punishment. If you have a teenager who wants to get into MMA, you will want to get them involved in our gym, before joining a competitive MMA gym.
First of all whenever I trained fighters the most important component I feel is heart. Heart is something that can’t be taught, you either have it or you don’t. The first thing you need to work on is conditioning, if you can’t make it in conditioning you will never make it in the cage. Everyone wants to spar but no one really wants to train. If you really have a passion for MMA you will go through the training to get the reward of sparring. Your teens will get fit at our gym.
Most teenagers don’t realize, but they cannot compete in MMA in the surrounding states until they are 18. There is no point in hard core sparring at a young age especially since they can’t compete until 18. At Shaddock MMA Fitness I like to ease the kids into contact. If you throw young kids into full contact sparring too quickly they can develop bad habits. One bad sparring session at a young age can make impressionable kids lose interest.
For the kids who want a little more we do have sparring nights. On sparring nights we do boxing sparring but I have them doing what I call technical sparring. In technical sparring you limit what type of punches can be thrown and work on defending and striking in a much safer way. Kids learn combat without getting all banged up.
On grapple box night we do some live grappling, but only at the end of the workout when the students are tired and less aggressive so no one gets hurt. We focus a majority of the training on drilling basic moves of submission grappling, this causes less injury.
All in all my gym is a great gym for kids looking to get started and learn basics of MMA . Shaddock MMA Fitness will get your kids fit and teach them basic offense and defense. The next time your kids think of wanting to join an MMA gym think of Shaddock MMA Fitness. shaddockmma.com.
If you are looking for a boxing fitness class nowadays you can find one in most gyms. There have even been some boxing fitness gyms opening up. All are good workouts in their own right, but do they actually teach the art of boxing? The truth of the matter is most of the gyms hire aerobic instructors to teach boxing like movements to do to aerobic dance music. But they don’t actually teach boxing. Shaddock MMA Fitness is something different.
Coach Shaddock has been involved in boxing for over 30 years. A USA Boxing Certified coach John’s class teaches the basics of boxing from soup to nuts. You will learn footwork, basic punches, defense and how to hit the various bags that hang at the gym. So you will not only get a fantastic workout but you will also learn how to defend yourself through the art of boxing.
The best thing about any of the classes is they are for all ages, all fitness levels, and is good for beginners and advanced students alike. There is something for everyone in the family. Before you sign up at any of the other gyms, come try the best first, Shaddock MMA Fitness. To make sure you feel comfortable taking the class I am offering a FREE one on one training session and orientation on the equipment. Just go to shaddockmma.com and fill out the contact form and I will contact you to set up your FREE training session. I hope to see you in the gym.
