Almost 20 years ago when I was working at Gold’s Gym in Charlotte North Carolina I remember having a conversation with the manager. The manager I was speaking with was a former college football player. Gerald had a body builders build, this guy was jacked. I was surprised when he told me about when he was thinking of joining a gym, but waited in the parking lot for over an hour before he set foot in the gym. This guy was actually scared to go in the gym. He was afraid of what others would think about him. Then I thought, wow, what does the average person think when they come into a gym, who has never worked out before? We take all of that into consideration at Shaddock MMA Fitness. When you come in we try and make you feel at home.
Although the name may seem intimidating, Shaddock Mixed Martial Arts, I assure you the classes are not. You will get a great workout, but we encourage you to compete with yourself at your own pace. You will notice we have people in their 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s all working out together in the same class. The other day I signed up a woman in her 70s. The beauty of the design of the classes is they are set up so all levels can workout at the same time. If you want a real “no judgment zone”, then come into our gym and try it out. We have a great promotion going on right now for April Fools where you could win 3 personal training half hours by just registering on shaddockmma.com (put Facebook contest in the comments). If you don’t win you will still receive one 30 minute session. Give it a shot, all you have to lose is some unwanted pounds.

Most boxing fitness classes can get you in shape, but are they teaching you correct form? This is a great question. You will find most of the boxing fitness classes are taught by aerobics instructors and personal trainers. Although the trainers may be in great shape most lack the proper form of a boxer. A lot of people will do the class to get in shape, but wouldn’t it be even better to learn proper form so you can also defend yourself. If you come to Shaddock MMA Fitness and train with John “Bones” Shaddock you will get in shape and learn proper technique.
John Shaddock is a former two time Golden Gloves finalist and New England Diamond Belt Boxing champion. John and his brothers were sparring partners for Kevin “The Bear” Daigle who fought Gianfranco Rossi for the world Jr Middle Weight title. Coach Shaddock is a USA Boxing Certified coach. At age 19 he started teaching “Boxercise” as boxing fitness class developed by his older brother and boxing coach Chris. Throughout the years John has developed a class of his own called Fitbox which has takes bits of Boxercise mixed with various fitness exercises he learned over the years. Fitbox not only teaches boxing fitness exercises but also proper footwork and correct form when punching. John is now teaching a boxing workshop which will go over all of the elements of boxing and will include controlled technical sparring . If you are interested in the class or the workshop contact John at firstname.lastname@example.org.
People always tell me “I want to get in shape before I join the gym.” It sounds like a smart idea, but truth is most don’t follow through. Let’s face it, if you could get in shape on your own, you would have by now. I get it, no one wants to be the NEW person in the gym who is out of shape. All you really need is a little extra guidance and to pace yourself when you first start. Unfortunately, most of the big name gyms forget about you once you join. A lot of health clubs have 2,000 plus members which is hard to keep track of everyones attendance. Once you sign on the dotted line you become just a number, not a name. But we do things a little different at Shaddock MMA Fitness.
At Shaddock MMA Fitness, we are similar to Cheers in the fact that “everybody knows your name.” We do group personal training in small intimate classes between 5-15 people. We have members of all fitness levels, and as old as 75 yrs old. All of our classes are done on a time basis. You do however many repetitions you can do in a set amount of time. Whether you do 5 or 50 in that minute it’s all up to you. You really do compete with yourself. My goal is to get Sykesville fit one person at a time. So come on in and try us out. You will be glad you did. Contact me at email@example.com for a FREE trial membership.

The biggest thing stopping most people from getting started on a fitness program is procrastination. We think about it, then we come up with excuses why we can’t do it. Unfortunately we are usually listening to that voice in our head that says “don’t do it”.
There are a lot of excuses if you think about it and your goal is to overcome them and act now. TIME is one of the biggest excuses, people always say I don’t have time. Truth is you do. The amount of time people spend on social media, and on the computer, is more than enough time to catch a workout a day in. If you come as little as two classes per week for a year, that’s 104 days and almost a third of a year on a fitness program.
COMMITMENT is the another excuse that people use. Most gyms and martial arts studios put you in a one year or 2 year agreement. At Shaddock MMA Fitness we have very flexible agreements and short term memberships.
PRICE is also a big factor in todays fitness program. But if your talking about just price the Big guys, the Gold’s and the Merrit’s will beat us. But if you are talking about COST, or value for your dollar than we are the place. Are you getting the service you want at your facility. Our classes are small and considered group personal training. When you factor that in our PRICE is much lower than the competition.
Come on in and train, I think you will be glad you did. If you want to experience something totally different, get fit and have fun, come in and try Shaddock MMA Fitness. Go to shaddockmma.com for schedule of classes.
