In 1987 John “Bones” Shaddock a Golden Gloves boxer was working at a health club in Vermont.  He had been asked by his older brother Chris to help out teaching his brothers Boxercise class.  Shaddock, a New England Diamond Belt Boxing Champion eventually left his brother’s gym in Vermont and taught at multiple gyms up and down the East coast.  John didn’t only have boxing experience but worked as a trainer being certified in fitness training and plyometrics through N.A.H.F.  Coach Shaddock has worked with amateur and professional boxers and MMA fighters helping them get ready for fights and even working their corners.

In 2008 John opened Shaddock MMA Fitness and began teaching Fitbox.  As the school grew he added Girlbox (womens only), IronBox (boxing and circuit training) , and GrappleBox (boxing and submission wrestling).  These are unique classes that you won’t find anywhere else.  They are always changing and evolving so the customer gets the best results.

Shaddock MMA Fitness Is Revolutionizing Gyms In Carroll County Maryland

I was in the health club business for close to 20 years, and there are a lot of things I always said I would change if I ever got my own gym.  After close to 10 years of owning my own  martial arts and fitness business I am finally at a point where I can change them for the better.  When you join Shaddock MMA Fitness now you will notice some changes not offered by other gyms.

NO LONG TERM CONTRACTS- One of the things that I felt was bad for the customer, was the long term contracts for customers, especially for the ones who end up dropping off.  At Shaddock MMA Fitness all of our memberships are short term.  We have nothing longer than 3 months at a time. I feel it’s my responsibility to keep you as a member.

 

PAY FOR WHAT YOU USE- At most health clubs whether your in the club everyday or in the club once per week you pay the same amount of money.  That doesn’t seem fair.  At Shaddock MMA Fitness we have memberships for one day per week, two days per week or unlimited  use memberships.  We give you the flexibility to use the gym as much or as little you want. This is the way it should be, and the way it is at my gym.

Is Fear Stopping You From Reaching Your Goals In Sykesville, MD

Fear,  we’ve all experienced it, especially when it comes to joining a fitness or martial arts center.  We call it procrastination, but it’s really just fear.   Some are fear of looking stupid (don’t know how to use the equipment).  There is fear of looking like a Klutz.  There is what is termed physique anxiety( afraid you’ll look too fat, too skinny or otherwise).  There is also fear of the high pressure sale.  With a lot of gyms and martial arts studios these fears are justified but not at my gym.

At Shaddock MMA Fitness I have decided to give every NEW member a FREE 30 minute session with me in which I explain how to use all the equipment in class.  As far as the physique anxiety goes I encourage anyone to come to one of my classes. and just watch.  We have people of all shapes and sizes, ages and walks of life.  For the final fear, high pressure sales, I do all sales and service.  I don’t believe in high pressure sales.  You will not be pressured.

What Has Stopped You From Joining A Fitness Center In Sykesville, MD

I worked for other health clubs for close to 20 years and have owned my own martial arts and fitness center for close to 10 years.  Over the years I have noticed there are many reasons why people don’t join a fitness center or health club.  Hopefully I can help you make a good decision and get you on the road to a fitness lifestyle. The following are the biggest reasons people don’t join.

#1 Procrastination– Let’s face it we’ve all done it.  In fact you may be doing it now.  Working out is just what it says, work, but in the right case can be kinda fun. Take your time to find the right place but when you do, get started and get yourself fit.

#2 Commitment– Commitment is a big one.  Most people fear to commit to anything, especially something that requires working out on a regular basis. Most health club and fitness centers require at least a one year commitment, sometimes more.  Make sure the place you are looking at has short term options.

#3 Competition– I know a lot of people who want to check out the competition.  They will literally go on free passes at every gym in town.  That is your right and it’s a great idea, unless you never join.  Write down your criteria for your gym and weight you options.  Make the decision that’s best for you. Make sure you are comfortable with the members and the instructor.

#4 Spouse– “I want to talk to my spouse”, this is usually what people say  when pressured to get out of the office.  If this is the real reason, find a place that is a good place to workout for you and your spouse.

#5 Price– Well price is kind of tricky.  Unfortunately in this economy it is the first thing people look at.  The real big gyms can offer extremely low prices because they bank on the fact that you are not going to use their gym so they can get more people that are going to use the gym.  These gyms are selling space and not service.  Make sure the people are attentive to you when you come in. So more so than price what kind of value is the gym giving you?

A Workout That Burns A Lot Of Calories In Sykesville, Maryland

If you are looking for a workout to burn off lots of calories then you need to look for a boxing fitness class.  At Shaddock MMA Fitness are fitness classes all include some form of boxing fitness.  We don’t just do shadow boxing like the “Tae Bo” style of class but actually punch bags like at a traditional boxing gym. Why Are Women Boxing In Sykesville, Maryland

Boxing is a fantastic workout.  It will help you physically, Mentally and spiritually.  At Shaddock’s MMA And Fitness a large percentage of our classes are boxing related.  Lately I have noticed more and more women coming in the door to take my classes . The Huffington Post helps to demonstrate why more women are boxing in their blog.

PHYSICALLY– “Boxing burns 500 calories/hour builds lean muscle, develops stamina and endurance, and ramps up metabolism” according to the post.  The Fitboxing and Girlboxing classes at my gym get you in shape through boxing footwork drills and calisthenics as well as bag work.  The IronBoxing class combines weight training with training on the punching bags at the gym.

MENTALLY- The post blog suggest “The research on successful aging urges us to learn something new, strategic and to keep testing ourselves with new sequences and moves.” In our classes there are a variety of skills and drills that not only work you out physically but mentally as well. Each class has different stations and different drills, my classes train your body and your mind.

SPIRITUALLY– In the post they stated “nothing works one’s complete attention and concentration”  Boxing takes focus.  A lot of the skills require extreme focus.  A portion of my class my students participate in meditation.

Some boxing facilities turn women away, we welcome that.  In fact we have a women’s ONLY boxing class called GirlBoxing on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
