In the past motivation was never a problem. I was always training for an event or had a goal. From making the football team, to winning the states at wrestling, to winning the Golden Gloves championships. There was always something to shoot for, so to get up and run and lift was no problem at all.
As we get older the goals change, they are not quite as sexy. “I want to lose weight”, “I want to lower my cholesterol”, Basically “I don’t want to die”. Well goals like this are important but they aren’t measurable, there seems to be no end game and so it’s just hard to get pumped up for in the morning. All of us, especially former athletes need that push.
One of the best ways to make it easier to get started is to get a workout partner. Someone to push you and make you work harder. Someone to get you up even when you don’t want to someone to push you. I went out and got myself a workout partner Mac. Mac is my Australian cattle dog. Mac wakes me up in the morning to run, and take him on multiple walks/runs throughout the day. Mac is the perfect training partner as he doesn’t care if it’s raining, or what he will get me to run with him anyhow.
If you don’t want to get a dog you can get a friend to train with you, keep you honest. The key is you want to make sure your friend has the same work ethic as you. The other way to go is to get yourself a trainer. I will not only train you but will keep in contact and motivate you to come in even when you don’t want to. If you are looking for a workout to burn off lots of calories then you need to look for a boxing fitness class. At Shaddock MMA Fitness are fitness classes all include some form of boxing fitness. We don’t just do shadow boxing like the “Tae Bo” style of class but actually punch bags like at a traditional boxing gym. My name is John Shaddock and I am the owner of Shaddock MMA Fitness. I am proud to announce the April 2018 will be our tenth year in business. I do want to thank all of the residents in Carroll County and the surrounding areas. I understand that coming in to a new gym can be hard and coming into an MMA and boxing gym can be even more difficult. A lot of people want to learn how to box but don’t want to look stupid not knowing how to use the equipment right off. To help out I have created Fitbox101 which is a 30 minute instructional class that will go over the all of the basic movements of class without being
too tough of a workout. Beginning May 1st the class will meet twice a week for 30 minutes (530-6 Mon and Weds) for 8 classes. The most exciting thing is the price! People always tell me “I want to get in shape before I join the gym.” It sounds like a smart idea, but truth is most don’t follow through. Let’s face it, if you could get in shape on your own, you would have by now. I get it, no one wants to be the NEW person in the gym who is out of shape. All you really need is a little extra guidance and to pace yourself when you first start. Unfortunately, most of the big name gyms forget about you once you join. A lot of health clubs have 2,000 plus members which is hard to keep track of everyones attendance. Once you sign on the dotted line you become just a number, not a name. We have members of all fitness levels, and as old as 75 yrs old. All of our classes are done on a time basis. You do however many repetitions you can do in a set amount of time. The biggest thing stopping most people from getting started on a fitness program is procrastination. We think about it, then we come up with excuses why we can’t do it. Unfortunately we are usually listening to that voice in our head that says “don’t do it”.
There are a lot of excuses if you think about it and your goal is to overcome them and act now. TIME is one of the biggest excuses, people always say I don’t have time. Truth is you do. The amount of time people spend on social media, and on the computer, is more than enough time to catch a workout a day in. If you come as little as two classes per week for a year, that’s 104 days and almost a third of a year on a fitness program.
COMMITMENT is the another excuse that people use. Most gyms and martial arts studios put you in a one year or 2 year agreement. At Shaddock MMA Fitness we have very flexible agreements and short term memberships.

People generally are scared of joining gyms. I am here to tell you that you need not fear coming in to Shaddock MMA Fitness. While reading the Blog by VERY WELL, I found a lot of the reasons why people are scared to join a gym. Below are VERY WELL’S questions followed by the reasons you may want to make the change to Shaddock MMA Fitness.
Open spaces – If you’re looking for privacy during workouts, joining a large gymmay not be for you. In many health clubs, the workout areas are open with cardio machines lined up behind one another and weight machines sprawled out across the floor. Some group fitness rooms may be lined with windows so people can see in and some find this uncomfortable when just getting started with exercise.

Confusing machinery – Treadmills, bikes, elliptical trainers, balls, bands, weight machines…all that equipment can be very confusing if you’ve never used them before. The fear of looking stupid is something we all experience when trying new things and the overwhelming choices can add to that fear.
THE SECRET TO OUR FITNESS IS IT’S SIMPLICITY. THE EQUIPMENT IS EASY TO USE AND THE INSTRUCTOR AVAILABLE AS WELL AS MANY VETERAN CUSTOMERS WHO WILL BE MORE THAN WILLING TO HELP WITH ANY QUESTIONS.
Aggressive salespeople – Working up the courage to visit a gym can be hard for some people and, if you’re shy, an aggressive salesperson may intimidate you even more. Not all health clubs are like that, but many do put pressure on you to sign up. Many people find themselves signing over their firstborn without even being sure they want a membership at all.
THERE IS ONE SALES PERSON, ME. I GOT OUT OF HEALTH CLUB SALES BECAUSE I DID NOT LIKE THE THE HIGH PRESSURE TACTICS AND LACK OF SERVICE TO BACK IT UP.
Hardcore exercisers – Every gym has regulars and some can be a little intimidating if you make an honest mistake (like taking too long on a machine or not putting your weights back in the right place). Though you’ll find most members are helpful and nice, not all gym-goers are patient with newcomers and it can be scary to navigate the gym with these types of people.
SURE WE HAVE SOME HARD CORE PEOPLE BUT THEY ARE ALL PEOPLE WHO ONCE WERE BEGINNERS AND THEY DON’T FORGET WHERE THEY STARTED. THEY ARE ALL WILLING TO HELP. YOU DON’T JUST JOIN A GYM, YOU JOIN A FAMILY.
Beautiful people – Then there are the beautiful people. Though there are a wide variety of gym-goers, big and small, there are always going to be those people that seem to have perfect bodies. Many newbies can be intimidated when they see this, not remembering that everybody starts off as a beginner at one point or another.
